Stockton Mental Hospital --in Dec. 2005 over 30 bodies were discovered buried in an unidentified mass grave site in Stockton, CA. Grupe Construction was re-developing an area on the former Mental Hospital grounds now the location California State University Satellite office. We are attempting to locate Elizabeth Rathjen who was one of the former patients who we are seeking supposedly walked away from the mental hospital in Feb. 1956. We believe one of these bodies could be her and want the State Dept. of Mental Health Department to do what is right and to pay for the DNA testing so the people in the mass grave will have a name again and the families can have closure and give their loved ones a proper and dignified burial. Donald the man you hear in the video was a former patient at the hospital and has insight on the terrible inhumane way the patients were treated. He has been instrumental in organizing a group called California Memorial Project that help give the people who died in the mental institutes a name and a dignified and proper burial. In 1990 over 2238 bodies were removed from Stockton State Mental Hospital grounds and moved to the Rural Cemetery and placed in 1 burial site with a headstone that reads "Unidentified Persons". The Mental Hospital facility sold for approximately 9.3 million dollars for the property but they can't afford to pay for DNA testing.
